Wild Encounters consists of education-based programs with up-close and personal animal experiences! There are several packages to choose from, dependent on the type of animal you’re interested in interacting with. These programs run from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm on an advanced scheduled day at the Binghamton Zoo, and costs $100.00.
*All package participants are required to read and sign a waiver outlining expected behavior and potential liabilities involved. This waiver will be signed upon arrival at the zoo for the experience.
*Participants must be at least 12 years of age to participate in these packages, and those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult at least age 18 or older. No more than three people may participate in one package experience.
*Boots or sneakers are required.
To book Wild Encounters packages, please contact the Binghamton Zoo Education Department at (607) 724-5461 ext. 235.
All Wild Encounters packages include:
- Introduction: An education staff member will greet participants and give an introduction to the animal as a species in general, including their native habitat, diets, and behaviors. At this time, experience procedures will be reviewed and the waiver should be signed.
- Meet the keeper/animal/keeper talk: The keeper assigned on the day of the program will be giving the talk about our specific animals and husbandry practices. The keeper will also be in charge of supervising the animal experience.
- Photo: Education staff will be present during the entire experience to capture the interactive experience and participants will receive a photo at the end!
Play with a Penguin
We're very proud of our penguins here at the Binghamton Zoo, so we'd like to present our Play with a Penguin package to the public for your enjoyment! During your Wild Encounter, you'll get to "play" with the penguins with a special enrichment item!
Walk with a Wallaby
Wallabies, the smaller relative to the kangaroo, are a little easier to interact with than their large cousins, so come take a walk... with a wallaby! A trip around the wallaby yard will give you a great view of all of our wallaby friends! On occasion, our wallabies tolerate being petted, but this is not a gurantee. In this case, the keeper will tell you exactly how and when to do it.
Rescue a Red Panda
Rescue a Red Panda and hang out with one in the process! 15% of your payment will go to support the fight against the red panda's demise in the wild. During this experience, you will be able to observe a training session with our red pandas. They actually are quite smart!
Explore the New World Tropics
Explore our newest exhibits at the Binghamton Zoo during this unique encounter! Participants will learn about all of the species living in our New World Tropics building and even get the chance to feed one of the animals. Pick either our two-toed sloth or prehensile-tailed porcupines, and we'll let you give them a snack!
